Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra made her Royal Ballet debut on the Company’s 2017 tour to Australia, conducting The Winter’s Tale. She returned in the 2017/18 Season to conduct The Winter’s Tale at the Royal Opera House.
De la Parra became Music Director of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in 2017. She founded the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas in 2004 aged 23. She has conducted orchestras including London Philharmonic Orchestra (on tour in Mexico), Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, Tonhalle-Orchestra Zürich, NHK Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre de Paris, Verbier Festival Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Cameristi della Scala, Tonkünstler Orchestra (recording project), Bamberg Symphony, Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, BBC Philharmonic, Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra and Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra. She has conducted at festivals including BBC Proms Australia and Beethovenfest Bonn.
De la Parra has the distinction of being the first Mexican woman to conduct professionally in New York City. She is an official cultural ambassador for Mexican tourism and a brand ambassador for Mercedes-Benz Mexico.
