You may have noticed some changes around the Royal Opera House since we opened for the 2021/22 Season. Not only are we working to make sure everyone feels safe as they return to our building, we are also working with staff, artists and our audiences to prioritise sustainability. We spoke to some of our front-of-house team about the latest developments.
‘This is a frequent question as we return to live performances. We are doing all that we can to become paper free. This means that the way we share some information might be a little different for regular audiences. For example, instead of menus being available on each table in the café, we have larger boards with all the latest menus.
You can find QR codes around the building to scan for the latest cast sheets. We have also installed new screens which display the cast sheets for that day. Using these digital cast sheets will ensure that you have the most up-to-date casting information. Also, digital cast sheets will remain on the website after the event has finished. This means that you can look back at accurate details of the performance at a time that suits you.
We thank those that have given us feedback on this new process. We are continuing to make improvements to how cast sheets are being presented online and will keep ticket-holders up-to-date on improvements to come.'
‘The new ice creams are an exciting sustainable change for our audiences! We are serving Northern Bloc ice creams in the intervals of all performances. As well as being delicious, they are made from all-natural ingredients and packaged and shipped sustainably. Our best selling flavour at the moment is salted caramel, which is one of the two vegan options on offer. Some customers have said it is the most delicious ice cream they have ever tasted!’
'We have recently installed water stations on every level of the building. If you have a reusable water bottle, we encourage you to bring it with you and use the stations for still water. You can also take reusable water bottles into the auditorium with you as long as they are not made of glass. Don’t worry if you don’t have one – you will be able to buy a reusable, sustainably sourced, collapsible ROH bottle in the shop or from any of our bars.'
